Finding the Right Laser Hair Removal Machine

There are several different types of laser hair removal machines on the market today, and some are better for a particular skin type. Therefore, you should be knowledgeable on the different types and what will work best for you prior to investing in a device or undergoing professional treatment.

Types of Laser Hair Removal Machines

Long-pulse alexandrite laser hair removal machines have the ability to penetrate deep into the skin. These types of laser hair removal machines are highly effective on patients with white skin and dark hair. The wavelength associated with this type of laser is shorter, which makes it a good option for fast hair removal and appropriate for quick treatments on parts of the body with large surface areas. This type of laser works well on thinner, finer hairs that other types of hair removal lasers cannot touch; but the results are somewhat short term. The alexandrite laser can also produce changes in skin pigmentation (lightening or darkening of the skin).

A diode laser hair removal machine uses small diodes or semiconductors that are arranged together to produce light. The diode laser has a longer wavelength, which makes it a better candidate for darker skin types; although there is no guarantee that it will work well on very dark skin. However, individuals with dark, coarse hair can benefit from this type of laser. People with white or light hair will not benefit from this type of laser hair removal machine. Possible side effects include burns, scars, discoloration of the skin, swelling, and redness. Treatment with this type of laser has more of a long term effect, but this can vary by person. If you believe this type of treatment is best for you, be sure to select a qualified physician and learn from the experiences of others who have undergone this treatment. Though no laser treatment can achieve 100% permanent hair removal, it is possible to achieve 85% or greater hair reduction with a diode hair removal machine.

Hair removal machines that use the Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser give off two varying wave lengths of light. One is an invisible infrared light that is used for deeper penetration, and to get to deeper hair follicles. The other is a green light used for treating hair follicle closer to the surface of the skin. Studies have shown that these types of laser hair removal machines can achieve a significant delay in hair re-growth.

Finally, there are ruby laser hair removal machines. These machines emit a red beam, which targets the melanin inside the hair shafts and adjoining follicles. They work best for people with light skin and dark hair and can have long term effects.
