What's The Hype With Mineral Makeup

What's the Hype with Mineral Makeup?

Make-up has long been used by women to make their faces beautiful. These last few years, mineral makeup has been much popular since there has been increasing concern if the makeup being used were chemical and preservative free.

Mineral makeup is not just used currently, its history can be traced back as far as 2,500 year ago. Egyptian women has used malachite and galena as eye makeup and eye protection against the sun's harmful and reflective rays from the desert. Until now, North African and Indian women still used mineral makeup

As the name itself describes, mineral based makeup uses the various mineral elements from the earth. Most commonly used minerals would be zinc oxide, iron oxides, titanium dioxide and bismuth oxychloride. Zinc oxide are can be found in ointments that are used ease irritation like diaper rash. Titanium oxide, meanwhile, is present in sunscreens. Another good thing on mineral makeup is that they are inert. Since they are inert, bacteria is not encouraged to grow which happens in conventional makeup.

Mineral particles which compose the mineral makeup are large enough so that it would not penetrate the pores and cause damage to the skin and the pores. But these makeup also have some vitamins and antioxidants as their component. They tend to get into the skin, so some women generate some reaction (mostly allergies) to these. So when choosing makeup, mineral or otherwise, you should always consider this.

With mineral makeup, the chemicals and preservatives used in traditional makeup is not present. To come up or achieve the color desired, inorganic materials are used. So there are no artificial colouring or preservatives present in mineral makeup. For example, mineral makeup removes talc which sometimes cause irritation. Preservatives and talc may “suffocate the skin” and eventually cause acne, eczema and rosacea.

Another thing with mineral makeup is that it tends to be more convenient for some women. Mineral foundations can also be used as concealer, powder and sunscreen. Aside from these, because of the component of the makeup it is water- resistant. You can go ahead and swim in the pool for 80 minutes and still find your makeup intact.

Mineral makeup users claim that when they are using mineral cosmetics, the skin looked younger, firmer and flawless. This kind of makeup is said to relieve the skin of the effect of the use of traditional cosmetics. These minerals claim to put the glow back to the skin.

One of the skin problems among women are wrinkles. Wrinkles can be attributed to sun and overexposure to it. Mineral makeup is able to protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun. The good thing is that mineral cosmetics do not use chemicals to do protect the skin. Chemical use could cause more skin problems in the future.

Mineral makeup has been both applauded by women and at the same tie receive criticisms from some experts. Some experts say that the hype with mineral makeup is really unnecessary. Since some of the minerals like titanium oxide has long been used for sunscreen. As a matter of fact, mineral makeup has been introduced in 1970s, but it is only noticed now.

The trend that people are looking for healthier alternative is pushing mineral makeup on top of the cosmetic list. With people putting more attention to their health and welfare, they are becoming more conscious on choices they make with what they eat and what they put into their body. This trend is making it possible for people to live healthy and wisely.
