How To Make Goat Milk Soap

It may seem strange making soap from the milk of a goat but you will find that the goat milk soap is gentle and, therefore, great for those with sensitive skin, adults and babies alike. The benefits of goat milk soap come from the fact that it does not contain harsh and artificial ingredients like detergent, hardener and perfume that can dry and irritate the skin.

Goat milk soap is also an excellent moisturizer because of it has natural lipids, which lock in moisture and help keep the ideal pH level of your skin. Goat milk soap is the perfect soap to treat skin problems like acne or eczema.

One drawback of making goat milk soap, though, is that it is a bit difficult than making regular soaps because goat’s milk has a different reaction to the rest of the ingredients such as vegetable oils and sodium hydroxide.

The making of goat milk soap does not involve any heating, which is commonly used in regular soap-making, but instead the mixture for the goat milk soap is kept cold so as not to alter the natural properties of the ingredients.

Here is one recipe for goat milk soap:

The ingredients for this recipe include 7 ounces each of goat’s milk and water, 14.4 ounces of lye, 25 ounces each of coconut oil and palm oil, 4 ounces of castor oil, 42 ounces of olive oil, and 3 tablespoons of lavender essential oil.

Begin by heating the oils to temperature. Blend in lye into the oils. Stir the mixture by hand for about ten minutes, mixing to trace using a stick hand blender. Add the lavender essential oil. Pour the mixture into the lined soap mold and cover. Let is sit until it gels. Uncover the mold slightly to cool the soap a bit. The soap will be ready for cutting into bars after 24 hours. Cure the soap bars for about a month. This makes about 6 pounds of goat milk soap. (Note: lye temperature should be 90 to 95 degrees and fat temperature should be at 100 to 110 degrees)

You can find plenty of other recipes for goat milk soap on the internet. If you have sensitive skin or dry skin, try making some of this soap at home for a great natural skin remedy. Goat milk soap is available commercially but they are a bit more expensive than regular soaps. If you know how to make goat milk soap at home, then you can stock up on it and give away some to your family and friends.
