Waxing Hair Removal

Possible Side Effects Of Waxing

Waxing as a method of hair removal has many benefits. The most common benefit is the fact that it lasts for several weeks. In comparison to other hair removal methods, this is much longer. Shaving only lasts a day or two and depilatory creams may last a week. However, with waxing it can last two to six weeks. Waxing is also an inexpensive endeavor, especially if it is done at home as opposed to a professional salon. However, there are some possible side effects to waxing that can be uncomfortable and unsightly. Before waxing you should be aware of what the side effects may be. Luckily, though, each one has an easy solution to minimize or eliminate them.

Pain is an obvious result of waxing. The hair is being forcibly removed by the root. This can be very painful for some, especially the first time when the hair is at its thickest and coarsest. However, keep in mind that with continued waxing the hair becomes softer and finer. Also, the hair follicle becomes damaged after time so the hair is easier to pull out. The hair will also take longer to grow back. This will help reduce any pain that is accompanied by waxing as hair removal during subsequent sessions.

Immediately following the waxing, some people will see red bumps or redness in the area. This usually will go away within a few hours or days at the latest. However, those with particularly sensitive skin may take longer to heal. These side effects can be reduced though with a few easy to use remedies. First, make sure you avoid tight clothing, chafing or rubbing the skin that was waxed for forty eight hours after the waxing.

Also, avoid sunlight and extreme heat. The sun can damage the skin and heat and sweat may cause bacteria to build up that will result in a rash. After forty eight hours, make sure to moisturize after bathing every day. This will keep the skin soft and smooth. You an also use witch hazel as an astringent to soothe the skin. If you have more persistent problems, invest in a soothing lotion to use daily that is intended for use with skin irritations after waxing.

Ingrown hairs are another problem some people may have after waxing. This occurs when the hair was broken off instead of pulled from the root. To combat this, make sure you either use a professional salon to have your waxing done or that you know how to wax properly. Sometimes if you are not using the correct pulling technique when waxing it can cause the hair to break off. Forty eight hours after the initial waxing you should begin a regimen of exfoliating the area. At least twice per week use an exfoliating scrub on the area. This will make sure there are no clogged pores. The hair is then free to grow back on the surface instead of beneath it.

Redness, irritation, pain and ingrown hairs are all possible side effects of waxing for hair removal. However, the effects are typically minimal and go away quickly. With proper after care and waxing techniques, though, your issues will not last. Also, the more you wax regularly, the easier it will be and the less likely you will have any ill effects from waxing.
