A Guide To Southern Cooking Recipes

Southern cooking is known for its varied and delicious recipes. Southern cooking recipes vary as per the region, such as Cajun cuisine is famous in southern Louisiana, BBQ in Texas and so on. Kentucky recipes and African American recipes are also a part of Southern cooking. These cuisines include deep fried chicken, seafood, pies, stakes and so on. There are innumerable easy cooking recipes from southern part that are fun to cook, and are delicious as well.

Few Southern Cooking Recipes

Jambalaya recipe is a very famous southern cooking recipe, and it falls under Cajun cooking. Rice is the main ingredient of these recipes, and other ingredients include 2 tbsp butter, 1 cup finely chopped onion, half cup finely chopped green pepper, two cloves minced garlic, 1/4th spoon freshly ground black pepper, half pound smoked sausage, three cups canned tomatoes, one cup raw white rice, two cups chicken broth, half tsp dried leaf thyme, one tbsp chopped fresh parsley, two cups diced cooked chicken, one cup diced cooked ham, half tsp chilli powder and two tsp salt.

Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. Melt some butter in a large iron skillet and add onions, green pepper, and garlic, and saut lightly. Cook till onion is tender and then add sausage, ham and pieces of chicken pieces. Cook for five minutes and stir occasionally, and then add tomatoes, broth, parsley, rice and thyme. Sprinkle some chilli powder and add pepper and salt as per your taste. Put the entire preparation in a large casserole, cover and put it in the oven. Bake till rice turns tender which might take almost an hour. This southern cooking recipe will surely delight everyone at home.

Another delicious southern cooking recipe includes macaroni and cheese. You need half cup uncooked elbow macaroni, two cups milk, three tbsp butter, three beaten egg yolks, one cup soft bread crumbs, 1/4th cup red bell peppers, two tsp chopped parsley, two cups shredded processed cheddar cheese, 1/4th cup finely chopped green pepper, one tbsp grated onion and three egg whites.

Cook the macaroni in boiling water. Take a big saucepan and add butter, cheese and milk to it. Cook slowly and stir constantly over low heat till the cheese melts. Add some of this mixture to the egg yolk mixture and add it back to the hot preparation. Stir well and let the mixture blend well. Add macaroni, stir in green and red bell peppers along with onions, parsley and breadcrumbs. Fold the beaten eggs into macaroni mixture. Take a souffl dish and pour the mixture into this dish. Bake it at 325 degrees for almost an hour. Once the mixture sets, a delicious southern cooking recipe is ready to be served.
