Elements of Gourmet Cuisine

Gourmet cuisine is all about using the freshest and highest quality ingredients and presenting your dish in artful way. You do not always have to go to a classy restaurant to have a sampling of gourmet cuisine. You can actually cook gourmet cuisine right at your own kitchen with the right knowledge and tools.

In gourmet cuisine, the foremost consideration is the ingredient, specifically, its quality. Only the best ingredients will do when it comes to gourmet cuisine so you need to ensure that the ones you use are of quality. Use your senses to determine the quality of your ingredients. By simply looking at the ingredients carefully or smelling them, you will be able to tell they are fresh. For instance, fresh fish should have clear eyes not red and the flesh should bounce when you press it. Fresh fruits have a sweet smell. Fresh chicken should be plump and the skin should have no imperfections such as bruises.

One aspect of gourmet cuisine is using new ingredients. When you are just starting, you can stick with the ingredients indicated in a gourmet cuisine recipe. As you do this, study how different ingredients go together and then later you can start to experiment. Combine ingredients and expand your gourmet cuisine specialties.

Another way to expand your knowledge about gourmet cuisine is to be familiar with different cooking styles. Practice different styles or methods of cooking. Gourmet cuisine are not always exotic dishes they can be any ordinary dish such as barbecues, pizza or roast chicken only cooked with more effort on quality. So you can stick with traditional ways of cooking or try new styles of cooking such as cooking on a hot stone or a wood plank. Take the time to learn various cooking styles and explore possibilities.

Presentation is another differentiating element of gourmet cuisine. Your dish must be visually appealing. Gourmet chefs make great efforts in the presentation of their meals because the essence of gourmet cuisine is that the food tastes good and looks good.

Take, for example, the recipe "Chicken Wraps in Spicy Peanut Sauce". Now, you can just put the wraps on a plate and serve it as is but, if you want to give it a gourmet feel, one way to do so is to arrange three wraps on a plate in a shape of a fan, one wrap slightly on top of another and then place three cheese sticks and two olives on the side. Pour some sauce on the wraps and place the rest of the dip in a small bowl.

If you need inspiration, study how gourmet cuisine is served in restaurants. Browse gourmet magazines and books to get you started. You may also need to invest in some quality cooking tools and dinnerware but the investment as well as the time you spent learning will surely pay off when you start serving gourmet dishes to satisfy and impress your family and friends.
