Memory Foam Mattress Buying Guide

A memory foam mattress can give you quite a more comfortable sleeping experience than any other ordinary mattress. That is because memory foam conforms to the body's contours to give added support where it is needed. The memory foam is unlike any other ordinary foam mattress in that they are temperature sensitive and reacts to a person's body temperature to provide the cushioning effect. When the foam gets warmer, the memory foam becomes softer.

In buying a memory foam mattress, you should first know that the mattress in question is not made entirely out of memory foam. In fact, memory foam mattresses have a core and then layered with several memory foams. The core is the one that provided the mattress with a sturdy base from which the layers of memory foam would work more effectively.

The core of the memory foam mattress should also be considered when buying. The layers of memory foam would work its magic more effectively. An ideal core for the mattress should be about 6" of high density foam that should be at least 2 lbs per cubic foot. This will ensure a firm enough base for the layers of memory foam to work effectively in providing support. Cores that may have thinner and less dense foam inside would feel that the mattress is bottoming out after some time.

The next thing to consider when looking for a suitable memory foam mattress is the layers of memory foam used. There are basically three types of memory foam according to their density and thickness. The best mattress to consider would be those that make use of memory foam in the middle category. This would be memory foam around 3" to 5" thick and 3 to 4 lbs foam density.

A less dense memory foam may feel too soft like it cannot support into a person's body weight for long without bottoming out. Mattresses on the other hand that make use of super dense memory foam of 5 lbs or higher density may feel to firm and hard. Super dense memory foam tend also to become more temperature sensitive. Although the super dense memory foam mattress may feel hard at room temperature, they can become too soft as they get warmer due to a person's body heat.

This will actually lead to forming a cocoon around the person lying on it as it conforms to the body shape. The foam area not affected by the body heat tend to remain firm and hard, making it difficult to move around when the memory foam settles.

There are now a lot of memory foam mattress choices available out there. What type you would ultimately choose would depend on the level of comfort that you expect. Their prices may also vary and it does not mean that the most expensive mattresses would be able to provide you with the best comfort.

You will need to check them out first and see if they feel just right for you. Who knows, the memory foam mattress that you might eventually choose would be the most affordable ones around.
