The Story Behind Fendi Watches

Italy is known as a country where the world leaders in the fashion industry take root. But the country is not known for its watch making prowess. It is Switzerland that is known for its expertise in watch making.

However, there are Italian fashion companies who also venture out into the watch making world and become successful in the field. One of these companies is Fendi.

Fendi started in 1918 when Adele Casagrande started a leather and fur shop in Via del Plebiscito, Rome. Upon her marriage with Eduardo Fendi in 1925, they changed the shop’s name to Fendi. With hard work, the company grew and a branch in Via Piave was opened in 1932.

Later in 1965, one of the Fendi’s daughters married German designer Karl Lagerfield. From there, Lagerfield and the Fendi sisters developed new methods of working with fur. The company grew and became very successful and acquired high end status thereafter.

Today, Fendi not only carries furs, clothing and bag. They also sell high quality watches.

Fendi watches have been developed in the 1980s. Fendi watches are sleek, attractive, sporty and very trendy. They have watch lines for men and women.

The first set of Fendi watches is called the Zucca collection. These watches first brought the market’s attention to Fendi. These Fendi watches feature the company’s unique and famous FF logo on the bracelet and on the chronograph face. After the introduction of the Zucca collection, Fendi produced more watches such as Allegra, Epoca, Moda, Rivoli and the Stella collections.

All Fendi watches are manufactured to a high degree of quality and standard. They have ETA Swiss movements. The watches are resistant up to 100 feet of water.

Fendi watches also look very elegant. Each watch has a gold tone case. 10 micron, 18 karat gold is used for the plating. Also, each Fendi watch has its own serial number that is engraved on the back of the watch.

Just like all high end brands that are considered a status symbol. Fendi is vulnerable to counterfeiting. Counterfeit furs, bags and watches sold widely in flea markets, low end retail stores and internet auction sites.

The counterfeiting problem reached its peak when Fendi sued Wal Mart. The company accused Wal Mart for selling Fendi counterfeit items in its Sam’s Club stores. The suit was filed in June 2006.

To assure yourself of buying true Fendi watches, check for the inverted double F logo and the serial numbers. If the watch has those, they are probably genuine.
