Acid Reflux

Symptoms That Indicate You May Be Suffering From Acid Reflux

Acid reflux can affect a person at any time of the day or the night. The severity of the symptoms may be different and so it can be hard to tell if that is what is really going on. For some individuals though the symptoms of acid reflux are all too familiar. That is because they suffer from them on a regular basic. Discovering the symptoms of acid reflux can help you to diagnose what is going on though. That way you can take action for fast and effective relief.

The most common symptom of acid reflux is a burning sensation. It can be felt in the stomach, the chest, or the throat. For some individuals the pain will be from the bottom of the stomach to the top of the throat at the same time. When it occurs at night a person may think they are suffering from a heart attack as they may get severe pains in their chest region.

There are different forms of acid reflux and one of them is known as Dyspepsia. When this is present there will be some additional symptoms noticed by the individual. They include pain that occurs in the abdomen, the stomach feeling very full even hours after you have completed your meal, and sometimes nausea that occurs after you have eaten something.

There are some less common symptoms of acid reflux that people have reported as well. One of them is pain behind the breastbone. It may feel as if you swallowed a piece of food such as meat that was too large. It can become more severe when you lie down as well. Drinking plenty of fluids can help to flush out this feeling but it can take days for you to feel better. If it returns often then you have a serious problem with acid reflux that needs to be addressed with a doctor.

For some individuals the acid in their esophagus can affect their ability to speak. They may find they have to continually clear their throat in order to talk. They may have a dry cough that won't go away either. The persistence of it can be very annoying and it can prevent them from getting a good night of rest. Some individuals find it is hard to eat because they can't swallow properly. This likely means the opening of the esophagus has narrowed due to the acid.

When a person has a sore throat for a period of time they may blame it on allergies. However, if you suffer from acid reflux that could be to blame for it. Some individuals have daily occurrences of hiccups too that can be quite painful. They can also be a symptom of acid reflux.

Pay attention to such symptoms because if you don't the situation can continue to get worse and worse. You definitely want to get relief from acid reflux as soon as you can. Rather than allowing it to keep cropping up, look for solutions that will prevent it. Acid reflux can be too painful to wait for medications to kick in once you are hurting.

If your acid reflux symptoms continue to get worse or you can't get relief for them on your own seek medical attention. Many cases of it are severe enough that they require either prescription medications or surgery to get rid of them. Don't continue to allow the pain from acid reflux to be something you just try to cope with.
