Self-Mutilation Addictions
Addictions to pain are far more dangerous than any other addiction in the world. The pain is often worse than the victim leaves anyone to believe. Self-mutilation is often for the reason to escape reality and/or mental suffering, yet the addicts will find pleasure from causing pain to self.
Some self-mutilators will cause harm to self in an effort to seek attention. The person often wants someone to feel sorry for him or her, and will cause pain to self. In rare instances, the mutilation leads to death and most times because the person accidentally cuts deeper than he/she intended. The sensations these people feel often causes adrenaline to rush, which causes an addiction to occur. Therefore, we need to view many details of pain addictions, or self-mutilation addictions before considering why these people do what they do.
Escape is defined is wrongfully stated in addictions, since persons seeking to flee reality is using an escape mechanism, which helps them to evade objectionable truths and/or responsibilities. The act is a mode of thoughts or behaviors that are triggered by habits. In other words the person becomes accustom to this action, thus it becomes a part of their lives.
Pain addicts pain often use self-mutilation in an effort to avoid expectations placed on them by family, life in whole, or school. Sometimes living up to expectations is more than a person can stand. At what time the person self-mutilation, it causes the adrenaline to rush to brain producing a high affect. This is more than often sufficient, and the addict will not go further until the next time the high as needed.
In some instances, death results stemming from the symptoms brought on by the addiction. Once the person tires out from suffering, he/she might result, or act on suicidal tendencies which are often brought on by depression. Depression triggers deep-seated emotions, which in turn leads to death. Self-mutilators will slice their wrists; slice their arms, legs, and other parts of the body, including the neck. If suicidal tendencies exist sometimes, the addict will not tell anyone. For this reason, this addiction is highly, above average, dangerous. Still, most persons suffer in these addictions focused on gaining attention, were filling the need that was never filled. This then is an escape mechanism that provides pleasure, yet the pleasure is superficial.
Accidents can happen, especially if the person cuts deeper than he intended, and is scared to let anyone know. This person might take care of the problem on his/her own, believing that they can resolve the issue, yet fear entraps the mind, and a person is controlled by the emotions. A fatal mistake!
Anyone suffering from any type of addiction, mental disorder, depression, etc, is lacking the ability to stay in touch with the mind, i.e. the person functions on emotions. When a person functions on emotions, the person is placing self in a dangerous situation, and is vulnerable to others.
Teenagers are often the ones addicted to pain. Teenagers caught up in peer pressure, Satanism, were trapped in the world of illusion will often resort to addictions to relieve suffering.
