Substance Abuse Addictions

Substance Abuse Addictions

What is substance abuse and addictions? Substance abuse is the overuse of alcohol, heroin, opium, morphine, crack, cocaine, marijuana, etc. A substance abuser will endure withdrawals, as well as other symptoms especially if their addiction is not satisfied.

After carefully studying addictions, I concluded that a mental thought provokes the need to abuse alcohol, drugs, etc. The thoughts are powerful and if someone doesn't have a control, thus thoughts strike emotions, which in turns leads to impulsive behaviors.

The mind is not trained to conform to a healthier living. Therefore, we are looking at habits, thoughts, emotions etc, while considering substance abuse and addictions.

Few people will turn to AA meetings seeking help to stop drinking. Unfortunately, most people at a meetings have gone to court and punished for a crime committed, resulting from alcohol. Therefore, many of these people are there to satisfy the courts demands rather than stopping the abuse of substance.

Most people relying on escape mechanisms to avoid reality are suffering mentally and emotionally. Many people lack nurturing or development, thus it leads them to addictions, i.e. the person as a child was never given the entire ingredients that makes him/her whole.

Addictions lead to break down marriages, breakdown and families, breakdown and friendships, loss of jobs, loss of productivity, and eventually loss of life. In fact, the person is missing life in general, since it is being wasted on something that affects the brain, including causing brain damage. Often a person experiences a high for short time, and more substance is needed to reach another high. This is an ongoing process with no ending until someone or something stops the person entirely. In some cases, it could be the person himself, herself that stops alcohol or drug abuse, in other cases the law or the drug, or alcohol claims to life, thus stopping the abuse.

Anyone with an addiction will often drink and/or drug during any hours of the day or night. Symptoms can start in the early morning, afternoon, or evening. When the person is experiencing withdrawals they will often shake, feel depressed, stressed, and might even think about a way to explain the feelings, but will often resort to alcohol and/or drugs to relieve the symptoms.

Alcohol and drug abuse goes further, since a person will neglect the body and mind, i.e. denying the body of nutrients it requires surviving healthy. Alcohol affects the liver, kidneys, mind, and central nervous system, i.e. it affects the entire body as a whole, including the mind.

Most people that rely on alcohol will often use the substance, since they lack the ability to communicate effectively, or else socialize. The person might be quiet most times and when he starts to drink the alcohol causes adrenaline to flow temporarily, until it depresses the nerves, and in between, the person can rattle off at the mouth believing he is engaging in a healthy conversation. Each addict differs, since some enjoy frequenting the bars, while others prefer to drink alone. Addicts that prefer to drink alone have often had their fill a bar fights, etc, or has come to an agreement and the mind that is leading them to maturity, i.e. the person might be considering quitting, yet fails to see how he/she can do so.

Symptoms of substance abusers various, since all of us are different even if we do have addiction problems. Alcohol addiction or drug addictions are also known as dependency addictions. The downside is whether you're abusing drugs or alcohol the process is the same, i.e. once a person drinks or drugs for a length of time, they will often require more of the substance to reach a high.
