There has been an actual chemical imbalance created from the alcohol consumption over a period of time, that they body does not know how to respond properly, without the same level of alcohol that it has been used to having daily. This is why so many people suffering from alcoholism have to get treatment and care from a facility that specializes in things like this, with proper medical staff on hand, in case of any severe reactions by just being cut off from alcohol completely. It will pass but it is important to have professionals on hand, that know how to properly treat these symptoms, that can be very difficult and painful for the alcoholic.
