Anxiety Panic Attacks

Myth In How To Get Rid Of Anxiety And Panic

Coping with Anxiety and Panic: Some Common Myths

When in tension, Anxiety, or a panic situation we all try to do something that makes us feel better and more
relaxed. In addition, there is nothing wrong in it; in fact, this is the best thing to do. However, while trying to
relax ourselves we most often do things that do not really help. Stimulants like alcohol, caffeine, nicotine
might seem to help you but they do not really help much. Most of these stimulants tend to worsen the
situation.

Many people use alcohol to relax themselves and even those who do not tend to start drinking in order to
confront the effects of anxiety and panic related malady. However, is this really the solution? No. The more
that one drinks the more heavy his head feels and in result, it does not reduce your anxiety or panic but
rather increases it. For a small period, you may feel that it helps but the hangover leads to more of mental
agony. Alcohols may help you to sleep quickly but you will never get a sound sleep.

Alcohol metabolizing processes use many body vitamins. Because of the vitamin, deficiency alcohol should
not be consumed in large quantities daily. Thus, if you are an alcoholic then you must substitute your diet
with sufficient amounts of vitamins. Nevertheless, for all panic attack sufferers it is in their best interests to
quit or bring down the consumption to a bare minimum level.

Another very commonly used stimulant is coffee. Coffee (or rather caffeine) is used as a cardiac stimulant
and acts as a diuretic. It is most commonly used for providing a sudden up lifting of mood and energy. It is
also used for increasing alertness. It is the most commonly used stimulant amongst students who stay
awake until late at night.

Though caffeine can be effective in some cases, it is harmful in many areas and will cause the stress level to
rise. Caffeine is highly addictive and acts just in a milder way to drugs like heroine, cocaine etc. People
addicted to coffee need coffee to wake up in the morning and while solving even the simplest of their
problems.

When used in controlled quantities its harm can be sustained by the body but in excess amounts, it leads to
further increased levels of anxiety due to a feeling of sleeplessness and restlessness.

Caffeine can be found in coffee, tea, chocolate etc. and in various soft drinks. Caffeine intake should be kept
to a bare minimum level for proper functioning of the body. People suffering from panic attacks must cut out
their caffeine intake because of its adverse effects on mind and body.

Some people also use nicotine in the form of cigarettes, cigars, pipes, mixed with drugs like marijuana and
the like as a stimulant. Nicotine is extremely dangerous because it is passed straightaway into the
bloodstream and from there the nicotine is circulated to the brain. This may then trigger a variety of reactions
in the brain. Although Nicotine may not cause any major reaction, others may cause effects ranging from
sleep to hallucination. Nicotine affects the nervous system, cardiovascular system and elevation in blood
pressure including quicker heartbeats. Daily smokers are even higher on the risk side. Nicotine can
accelerate the onset of fresh wave of panic attacks. Thus, caffeine only aggravates the situation of panic.

Well we see that all these stimulants do no more than harm our body in our bid to cope with anxiety and
panic situation. You must try to avoid these things as often as possible.
