Juvenile Arthritis: Affects Children Yet No Specific Symptoms

Arthritis may be commonly known to affect adults, whose joints are more sensitive to movement, weight-bearing, degeneration, etc.  However, there are also types of arthritis that already penetrate the young, especially children. These types have been called as the juvenile arthritis.  There are also several kinds of juvenile arthritis, and each has its own sets of conditions and symptoms. 

Juvenile arthritis is formerly known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, but is recently been called as juvenile idiopathic arthritis, because there's been no known accurate reason or cause for such condition.  Although, it has been said that juvenile arthritis may be genetically caused or hereditary, and environmental factors may also contribute to such illness.

Juvenile arthritis is very distinct from other types of arthritis, which affect adults and even those, which affect children that are progressive until adulthood.  Juvenile arthritis has no specific symptoms that may be recognized immediately as a sign of this illness, especially also that children may find it difficult to communicate the kind of pain to their parents or physicians.  Some of the most common or basic signs of juvenile arthritis are when children have lethargy, reduced physical activities, lesser or poor appetite, "limping" movements, and swollen joints especially in the knee ankle, wrist, hands, and feet. 

This type of arthritis has been categorized into three classes: oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis, polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis.  Oligoarticular juvenile arthritis only affects 4 or fewer joints, polyarticular juvenile arthritis affects 5 or more joints and usually affects the neck, jaw, and smaller joints, and the systemic juvenile arthritis affects joints that may involve internal organs and the hardest to diagnose because its symptoms are fever and rash that may just come and go.

Treatment can be through appropriate therapy and proper medication.  The first step that one must take is to consult a physician and undergo a series of test and exams. What makes juvenile arthritis delicate and significant is that it affects the young ones especially the kids, which is why proper care and attention must be given to it. If kids are complaining of any symptoms or pains or body changes, then it is important that they must be taken to a physician for consultation. This way, one can rule out other diseases or can diagnose this type of disease, whatever the case may be, it is important that one knows what he's dealing with, rather than just grope in the dark, without knowing what he's looking for.
