Signs Of Childhood Asthma: How To Spot Asthma Warning Signs In Your Toddler

A lot of parents are not aware that their toddlers are already suffering from asthma. Unfortunately, the inability of parents to spot the early signs of childhood asthma can lead to some long term medical problems in their children. Remember that asthma can lead to complications if not treated immediately. To prevent cases of complications, parents should know how to spot early signs of childhood asthma in their little ones.

Coughing

According to experts, coughing is one of the early signs of childhood asthma. However, not all kids that suffer from bouts of coughing are eventually diagnosed with asthma so parents should not jump into conclusions that their little ones have asthma when they start coughing. If your child has coughs that last for only a couple of days that hardly qualify as a sign of childhood asthma. On the other hand, if your child has lingering cough and he or she usually have severe bouts of coughing in he middle of the night or at dawn, you should consult your doctor about this. Lingering coughs can be a sign of childhood asthma or other types of disorders so make sure that you bring your child to the doctor. Do not wait until the symptoms worsen before you seek medical help for your child. Remember that your child's health is delicate so do not take chances with him or her.

Wheezing

Wheezing is often one of the early signs of childhood asthma. A combination of coughing and wheezing especially during the night or at dawn is serious so do not ignore these symptoms. However, since not all children who suffer from coughing and wheezing have asthma so before you jump into conclusions about your child's medical condition, you should first take your little one to the doctor for medical check up. Your doctor should be able to tell you if your child is suffering from asthma or not.

Shortness Of Breath

Many children suffering from shortness of breathe while playing. Most those children who suffer from shortness of breath while at play are eventually diagnosed with asthma. A combination of coughing, wheezing and shortness of breathe is often considered as sure signs of childhood asthma. If you notice that your child suffer from shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing while playing, you should take her to the doctor for proper diagnosis. Remember that early diagnosis can help your child a lot. When caught in the early stages, childhood asthma is a lot easier to manage.
