According to studies, fish oil have good effect in reducing high blood pressure and the supplement DHA present in the fish oil helps in reducing hypertension. Folic acid or folate is also very helpful in lessening high blood pressure in some people by reducing the elevated levels of homocysteine.


A large number of fruits and vegetables have found to be useful in lowering high blood pressure and therefore it is good to incorporate them in cooking. Some of the useful vegetables and food items to be included are celery, onion, garlic, tomato, broccoli, carrot, saffron, and assorted spices such as oregano, black pepper, fennel, and basil. Obesity should be controlled to control hypertension and for that regular workout is suggested for everyone. One good simple exercise is walking and simple cardio exercise for 5 minutes daily can do wonder a person.


One can also try deep breathing exercise and meditation to lower high blood pressure, and these techniques lower the stress and indirectly reduces blood pressure. One should also prefer potassium diet, and this should include tomatoes, sweet potatoes, bananas, orange juice, prunes, and peas. Salt intake should be reduced to a great extent and salt can be substituted by including pepper, lime, garlic, and other spices. Too much of alcohol consumption is very bad for health and therefore a careful check should be kept on drinking alcohol. Most importantly, a person should learn the technique of reducing work level and relax, and once can listen to any music of their choice to keep hypertension in control.
