Chronic Bronchitis Prognosis: When To See Your Doctor

Chronic bronchitis is a very common condition, but you are going to want to take it very seriously, especially if you have little children around that could possibly catch it from you. Before you can go ahead and get chronic bronchitis medication or use any other type of treatment, you are going to need to get a chronic bronchitis prognosis from your doctor.

How They Make a Prognosis

There are a few things that your doctor is going to consider in order to make an accurate chronic bronchitis prognosis. For one they are going to have to see that you have a cough and expectoration that has occurred for at least three months per year for two years in a row, and they also must exclude other possible causes of symptoms such as tuberculosis and other lung diseases.

They are also going to take a look at your symptoms and use this to make their chronic bronchitis prognosis. There are a few very common symptoms of chronic bronchitis that your doctor is going to be looking for here. Frequent and severe respiratory infections, narrowing and plugging of the breathing tubes, difficulty breathing, and disability are all possible symptoms of chronic bronchitis.

Remember, chronic bronchitis is not your typical case of bronchitis. It is bronchitis when a person has to deal with it for the long term of their life, and so it ca be more than just a nuisance it can be seriously debilitating.

Treatment

Now once you have had a chronic bronchitis prognosis, you are going to work with your doctor on getting a treatment. Chronic bronchitis prognosis is the first step but the most important is making sure that you find the appropriate treatment. The first solution that your doctor is going to offer is that you quit any unhealthy lifestyle habits that you may have.

If you smoke or drink alcohol for instance, then you are going to need to cease immediately. These are habits that are only going to worsen your condition. You may need to take inhaled or oral steroids which are going to help reduce inflammation and supplemental oxygen is needed in more severe cases.

Treatment is determined on a case by case basis, so you are going to have to work with your doctor and have them check you out and determine which treatment is going to offer you the best chances of success here.
