If you are avoiding sugar totally, it is best to use regular splenda.

- Saccharin

Saccharin is a substance originally found in grapes that is more than a hundred times sweeter than sugar. A little amount of saccharin can go a very long way. However, it does not add volume to whatever it is that you are cooking making it not suitable for baking. Saccharin is also not suitable for drinks because of its aftertaste.

- Aspartame

Aspartame, sold under the brands Equal or NutraSweet, is also a hundred times sweeter than regular sugar but it tends to lose its sweetness when heated for a long time, making it not a good substitute for sugar in cooking or baking.


- Honey

Honey is a very good sugar substitute although it has a different taste from regular sugar and other sweeteners. Honey is good for sweetening your tea or coffee. It is also perfect for preparing a sugar-free dessert like chocolate mousse.
