Believe It Or Not, Many Athletes Can Also Struggle With An Eating Disorder

Often times athletes are at great risk of becoming stricken with an eating disorder, without even seeing it coming. Athletes have an enormous responsibility to their coaches, or so they feel, and many times because of all of that pressure they go to total extremes to get the weight off as the coach might have advised them to do. The kind of athletes that I am speaking of are not your typical football player, baseball player or weight lifter. I am speaking about the athletes of which include, snow boarders, dancing, cheer leading, ballet, ice skating, swimmers and horse racers. Those are the athletes that have to constantly worry about their weight because of their responsibilities that they feel they owe their coaches and teammates.

Weighing a smaller amount always makes their athletic abilities much easier and they will definitely go further with it, sometimes even becoming great professionals. The downside to that is that sometimes the pressure of staying thin causes them to end up with an eating disorder of some sort. An eating disorder can control anyone's lives, no matter who they might be or what their skills are. Throughout this article I want to inform all of you about the risks that many athletes are facing because of the type of athletics that they are involved in. Not all of these athletes become ill with an eating disorder but many of them definitely do, just attempting to be perfect so that they can be a success. To them perfection equals greater respect from their trainers or coaches and sometimes things can really get out of hand for them. They tend to lose total control over who they even are and kind of get lost in the whole game.

Unfortunately these athletes that are struggling with an eating disorder, in hopes of getting down to that weight that they need to be, and then they eventually end up having terrible health problems or worse, they end up dying because of their need to be perfect in this difficult world that we live in. Both men and women athletes can become sick with some sort of eating disorder, this disease is definitely not just a one gender kind of disease. Everyone that is under constant pressure to look good and perform good is at risk of becoming sick with an eating disorder, which could lead to so many other health conditions. It is so very important that everyone become much more knowledgeable about eating disorders, so that they will no what some of the signs and symptoms of this disease are. Athletes and non athletes are all under pressure with today's society always expressing thoughts about why it is so awesome to have an awesome celebrity body or whatever. Do not fall victim to this terrifying and life destroying disease because it could be what ends up taking your life and tearing your entire family apart.
