Being Emergency-Ready With First Aid Equipment

In specific working environments, as well as in some homes, it's necessary to be ready with first aid equipment that's more than just the simple antibiotic cream, gauze, and bandages contained in basic first aid kits. There are some situations when complete first aid equipment will be required to uphold a safe and emergency-ready environment. The easy access of this first aid equipment, as well as the knowledge on properly operating it, can make a big difference in life-and-death situations.

A particular kind of first aid equipment that's earned quite a reputation for medical emergencies is the "portable automated external defibrillator". The defibrillator is used when a victim's heart stops beating. The defibrillator sends out electric waves via paddles to restart the heart's normal rhythms. This first aid equipment is quite advance and must only be used by a person that has ample knowledge and appropriately trained to do so.

On the other hand, the effectiveness of this first aid equipment has been deemed necessary, and so it's now being integrated into first aid supplies of airplanes, schools, and industrial workplaces. These environments are starting to train specific persons to handle the equipment in cases of emergencies, with the hope that it will help save lives in perilous situations.

Another essential first aid equipment that needs to be incorporated into typical first aid kits is the "litter". Litters are small and easily collapsible type of canvas stretcher. It's used to assist in moving victims from dangerous situations or transporting them in a safer manner.

Another very important first aid equipment is the "tourniquet". This equipment is used to stop bleeding temporarily until emergency medical assistance arrives. A tourniquet is a tight band that controls bleeding through stopping blood flow to the wound. The equipment can be used on legs, arms, and other parts of the body where there is severe bleeding due to injuries. Some improper use of the tourniquet has led to serious tissue damage, so it's important that the person doing the first aid knows what they're doing.

First aid equipment can also include the protective gear for people performing the first aid. Some of these types of first aid equipment include disposable and compact device for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, rubber gloves, and goggles.

The main role of first aid equipment in school, home, or work environments is assessing life-threatening accidents and injuries, as well as stabilizing victims till professional medical assistance arrives. Nevertheless, these first aid gears once appropriately used, becomes the first significant tools for saving lives.
