Food Allergy Support Groups

There are lots of individuals who suffer from allergies. Support groups are wonderful ways for individuals to find current information about food allergies and to be able to share what works and doesn't work for them. Support groups can be a lifeline when you really need someone around you who knows exactly what you are going through. Support groups can be local groups, or online groups.

There are many support groups that are organizations that provide resources and educational opportunities for individuals to find more about food allergies than they can on their own.

One support group online is the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network. They can be found on the World Wide Web at foodallergy.org

There are all about education about food allergy, advocacy for food allergy patients, research about food allergy, and awareness programs. You will find useful information on their Website about common food allergies, anaphylaxis, information for the newly diagnosed, a shop for books and gifts, a place to find out what is new about food allergies, a advocacy link, research link and even recipes. There is also a link for fundraising ideas and events.

In the United States there is the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology where practicing allergist, immunologists and allied health professionals can be located if you are searching for one. The site has information about all kinds of allergies not just food allergies. On the day the Website was visited there was an article on there titled: Should food allergy be considered a disability? Parents: Anti-bias law should apply to kids barred from programs by Katie Farrell staff writer for the Daily News online.

You can also find support and information about food allergies from the American Dietetic Association's Website at eatright.org

The American Dietetic Association is the nation's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.

If you have a child who has suffered a food anaphylactic reaction you can contact the Anaphylaxis Australia Inc. or Anaphylaxis Canada for support and information

In Australia - allergyfacts.org.au and in Canada - anaphylaxis.ca

In Canada there is another Website that helps individuals and families cope with asthma, environmental allergies, and food allergies they can be found on the web at www.calgaryallergy.ca/aaia/index.htm

In the UK, you can find information online about anaphylaxis support and information including resources at anaphylaxis.org.uk

Support can also come in the form of community programs that outreach to members of the community that have a medical need such as community centers, churches, hospitals. Sometimes there are classes offered concerning food allergies for parents of children with food allergies or the school may have an informal class for teachers or lunchroom staff and helpers if there is a child with food allergies. Sometimes a parent can advocate for such a meeting in support of their child.
