Don't Worry About Head Lice Removal

Head lice have been irritating the scalps of mankind for at least tens of thousands of years. They've been around for a very long time, and they haven't shown any signs of going away anytime soon either. While not life threatening by any account, they can still make heads itch furiously, and there are millions of head lice cases in the United States alone, mostly in school age children. If you or your child should be diagnosed with a case of head lice, don't fret too much about it. By using a special medicine for their scalp and following a few other easy steps, you can easily remove head lice.

Diagnosis And Treatment

Head lice removal is an easy process, and most of the work can be completed up front. That means that if you or your child get head lice you can treat the problem in one night (or take a few to be extra safe), and get back into the normal swing of things. Most of the time, you'll diagnose head lice by searching for nits, lice eggs. These tiny white sacs can be found clinging to the hair about half an inch away from the scalp, and they're easier to spot than lice because lice can blend in with your hair and scalp pretty easily. However, because nits are so tiny, you'll want to search for them in broad daylight.

With the diagnosis for lice out of the way, you can begin the actual process of head lice removal. This is fairly cheap to do either of the two possible ways, so you don't have to worry about expensive drugs to treat this common ailment. A number of over the counter drugs that you can pick up at any local pharmacy explain how to remove head lice inside. These also include useful tools for manually removing nits, which you'll also need to do after you kill off the lice with the medicine. However, you can also use olive oil to suffocate the lice, which will take care of the lice problem but not the nit problem. Another method you can use is to warm a towel up in the dryer for twenty minutes to half an hour and wrap the towel around your head. The heat should kill off the lice and nits.

Eventually, you'll want to remove the nits by hand (or a fine nit-picking comb if you received one with your head lice removal medicine). It is very important to do so to prevent more lice from being born, and most schools have a no-nit policy, meaning that if a child is found to have lice, they won't be allowed back into school until the nits have been removed. Once the first treatment is complete, you'll want to continue watching for nits on a regular basis for the weeks to come. As you can see, head lice removal is an easy and cheap treatment to a non-life threatening affliction.
