Millions of people around the world suffer from headaches on a regular basis. There are quite a few different types of headache that you can develop, and headaches can range from being so mild that they are only slightly uncomfortable to being so severe that they are basically debilitating.

What is a Headache?

A headache is defined as being a pain in the head that is located above the ears or in the back of the upper neck. There are two different classifications for all types of headaches: primary headaches and secondary headaches. The primary headaches are those which are not associated with other diseases, and secondary headaches are those which are caused by associated disease.

What Causes Headache?

Of course one of the most important things for any headache sufferer to know is what causes headache. There are actually a few different answers to the question of what causes headache. When it comes to what causes headache, it really all depends on what type of headache you are dealing with.

A migraine headache cause will be different than a tension headache cause for instance, so the first step is going to be for you to figure out just what type of headache you have.

When it comes to the issue of what causes headache, there are a few possibilities. Anything from stress to a poor diet could be the cause of a headache, and so you are going to have to take a look at your life in general and figure out what triggers there would be.

What Treatment Options Are There?

If you have headaches that are painful or constant, you are going to need to get appropriate treatment for them. Some people deal with headaches so bad that at times they need to lie down and can barely move.

Fortunately there are some terrific treatment options out there that you can use to deal with your headaches and get back to feeling like yourself again. There are acute treatments such as pain relievers and NSAIDs which are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. There are also various preventive treatments that you can use such as beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers, as well as anti-seizure drugs like valproate and topiramate.

The important thing is that you remember that there are treatment options out there, things that you can do to help deal with the pain caused by your headaches and get back to feeling normal again.
