Tension Headache: Getting Rid Of That Awful Pain In Your Head

Headaches often happen especially when we are stressed out or are very tired. Experts believe that when we are stressed out, our body releases certain types of chemicals that can cause aches and pains in different parts of the body. Spasms in the muscles located around your neck head and face could result to headaches that could last for hours. Although tension headache rarely progress to something serious, tension headache can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. In fact, tension headache can be very difficult to live with. A lot of people who suffer from chronic tension headaches could not function very well and are not very productive at their jobs. Fortunately, tension headache is relatively easy to manage. Changes in your lifestyle, medication and therapy could help people who are suffering from this disorder.

Lifestyle Change

People who are suffering from tension headache should take time to evaluate their lives. They need to identify the things that trigger their tension headache and learn to stir away from these triggers. For instance, if your tension headache is closely related to job related stress, you should try to look for another job that does not bring you as much stress. Yes, the very stressful job that you have right now may pay a lot of money but if your health suffers because of that job, you might as well leave that job. There is really no point of letting yourself suffers through painful episodes of tension headache for the rest of your life.

Medication

Tension headache can be treated with pain relievers. If your tension headache is making you miserable and unproductive, ask your doctor to prescribe some pain relievers for you. However, you should never abuse the use of pain relievers. Studies show that indiscriminate use of certain types of pain relievers can cause a lot of damage to the body. Some people who constantly use pain relieves become addicted to this drug that they cannot live without it. To make sure that you do not end up being dependent to drugs, you should use pain relievers only when you absolutely have to. If your tension headache is mild and tolerable, do not take drugs. Instead of swallowing a pill, go home, turn down the lights, lie down and get some rest. You may also ask someone to give you a soothing massage. A relaxing massage can do wonders for your body and soul.
