Writing About Insomnia

Writing about Insomnia

Writing about insomnia can help you to find answers to your problems. Studies have shown for years that when a person writes down their feelings, thoughts, emotions, et cetera it can help the person learn to cope with stress.

When a person holds in his stress, feelings, emotions, thoughts et cetera the mind often builds on the repression until it breaks and thus sleeplessness often results. A person does not have to be gifted in creativity or artistic nature to learn how to keep a journal of his or her feelings, emotions and thoughts. Rather, as long as you are literate you can jot down your thoughts and feelings in little time and review the writing to see if any answers exist. To get you started on your journal I will write a symbolic journal of a pending patient and counselor theory to help you to see what can result from the writing procedure.

Problem: Carry has difficulty sleeping at night
Question: Why does Carry have difficulty sleeping at night?
Analyze, what is Carry is lifestyle like? Does Carry drink alcohol to relieve stress? Does Carry often put off her responsibilities finding excuses to avoid finishing the tasks? Does Carry have additional symptoms that chain her mind and causes the insomnia?
History; Carry is a nurse at the local hospital in her town, and she often works swing shifts. Carry does not take drugs nor utilizes alcohol, with the exception on special occasions. Outside of work, Carry works, goes home, rests and returns to work.
Deduction: I see a pattern here that has developed over the years that is causing Carry to suffer insomnia. Carry's lifestyle is consisting of working long hours and hours that are ranging from day to night shifts, thus interrupting the minds ability to find relaxation. Carry has no life outside of work, thus her social skills are lacking and her ability to enjoy and relax is non-existing for the most part.
Solution: Carry will need to adapt to the situation and learn to take time out for her self and add time off for healthy entertainment. If Carry must continue her work style, then she will need to relax throughout the work schedule to help the mind find a moment of relaxation. If Carry continues this lifestyle, eventually her health will deteriorate, since Carry is having difficulty sleeping at night, thus the body and mind is not getting the relaxation it needs. We can also ask Carry what her eating habits are to continue assessing this situation. My guess is, since Carry is on the run most of her life, her eating habits are suffering nutritional means to survive her lifestyle for a lengthy time.

As you can see, this is merely an assessment of a person's lifestyle, but writing out the details can help you to appreciate why Carry is suffering.

Insomnia occurs when the mind is overwhelmed. Thus to find relief the person has to take the steps to fight the chaos of the mind, thus finding relief and restoring sleep.

As you begin your journal, you will soon learn more about yourself that you may not expect. Do not be alarmed since when answers are available it often relieves the mind. For example, you may find additional symptoms when writing that leads you to believe that a mental disorder is consuming your mind. This is a good finding, thus your next step should be to get a physical to weed out medical and then move on to mental help to find relief.

Possibly, you recently experienced a death in the family that has brought on insomnia. During your writing techniques, you may learn that you are blaming your self for the death. Blame can consume the mind and cause insomnia, thus you must continue your writing process to learn how you can let go of the blame and begin your life with a missing counterpart. One of the best solutions for coping with death in the family is finding new friends and taking time out to join in social activities without feeling guilty for doing so.
