Ocular Migraine Pregnancy: A Bizarre Case, Indeed

Ocular Migraine Pregnancy: A Bizarre Case, Indeed

Pregnant women normally expect that during their pregnancy they will start to experience a number of changes in their bodies which is understandable. However, sometimes these changes can turn out to be quite bizarre. For instance, some pregnant mothers might develop allergies to cats or their nails might start growing too fast and their breasts will also have increased in size. Pregnancy related ocular migraine is perhaps the most bizarre of all developments affecting women that happen to be in the family way.

No Telling When The Episode Will Begin

In fact, there is no telling when an episode of ocular migraine during pregnancy might occur. However, once the pregnancy related ocular migraine sets in things can change rapidly and for the worse. It is common to experience flashing lights in the corners of the eyes which of course is only experienced by the pregnant mother and by no one else. This means that when the problem is discussed with others, no one other than the pregnant mother will have a clue as to what is going on.

In fact, once the ocular migraine during pregnancy occurs it can blow up out of proportion and become far worse than simply seeing flashing lights because it can turn into a veritable light show. This in turn makes the pregnant woman feel very weird – even though she might not be experiencing headache - but the head will nevertheless feel light and the ‘attack’ will generally last for a few minutes before passing away.

Such ocular migraine attacks during pregnancy can occur without any definite pattern which means that sometimes that attacks will be quite frequent while at other times the attacks will be conspicuous by their absence. And, what’s truly worrying is that ocular migraine during pregnancy can occur in the following pregnancy as well, and then in the pregnancy following that.

Many expectant mothers attribute onset of ocular migraine during pregnancy to their hormonal changes. However, the exact causes of ocular migraine during pregnancy are not known and so it is up to the individual to take steps to alleviate the condition which mercifully will not last for more than ten to fifteen minutes. Even doctors are quite clueless about the causes of ocular during migraine pregnancy and so they will not have much to offer by way of relief except to prescribe a few medications and advice complete bed rest.

Ocular migraine and dizziness go hand in hand and the dizzy feelings are ascribed to the fact that when the patient’s vision is blurred it follows that there will also be certain amount of dizziness as well. In addition, the individual will also notice gray or black spots obstructing their natural vision.
