A migraine or otherwise known as the migraine headache is a very painful headache that is often accompanied by sensory warning signs such as flashes of light, blind spots amongst other things. The pain is excruciating may last for hours or even days in some cases.

A migraine is a result from a combination of blood vessel enlargement and the release of chemicals from nerve fibres that coil around these blood vessels. During the headache an artery enlarges that is located on the out side of the skull just under the skin. This will explain the pulsating feel in that some people will feel. This causes a release of chemicals that cause inflammation, pain, and further enlargement of the artery. It also happens that females are more likely to suffer from migraines. This can be caused buy menstrual cycle fluctuations and also birth control pills or hormone fluctuations during menopause.

A migraine headache causes the sympathetic nervous system to respond with feelings of nausea and vomiting and in some cases diarrhoea. This response delays the emptying of the stomach into the small intestine. This can be dangerous as it affects absorption since most of it occurs in the small intestine. A migraine also decreases blood circulation and these results in cold hands and feet. It also increases sensitivity to things like light and sound. Some people may even find it very difficult to move and feel that motion makes the pain worse.

The Causes Of Migraines

Some of those who suffer from migraine can easily identify the triggers or the factors that end up leading to a migraine but most cannot. The potential triggers include allergies and some allergic reactions. This happens when someone has an allergic reaction to something then a migraine will a symptom or part of one. It also happens that bright lights and loud noises along with certain odours or perfumes. Alcohol could also be a trigger as you should know that you can experience a hang over after drinking the day or night before.

Your emotions are very important for your well being as any kind of emotional stress can result in a migraine. Physical stress may also be a trigger and also changes in sleep patterns or irregular sleep. Another factor could be smoking or exposure to smoke. The ones who fast or skip meals may also experience the headaches and also certain foods can be a trigger as well as tension headaches.
