The Basics Of House Mold

Mold occurs naturally outdoors; in fact you are probably surrounded by mold when you go outside. However house mold is something that you should avoid at all costs. If you do discover house mold in your home then you should start house mold removal as soon as possible.

You will find mold growing in damp and wet areas of your home. Basements are a prime spot for house mold in the home. Mold spores floating in the air may find its way into your home and will reproduce once it has had contact with moisture within the home.

Health Problems

House mold can be a major problem, especially if someone in your home has allergies. This is because mold in the home can produce allergens. Allergens will irritate anyone who inhaled or touches the mold in your home. More serious health problems are also possible once house mold is found in the home. Asthma sufferers are particularly vulnerable to health problems related to mold.

Eliminating Mold

If you have found house mold in your home you probably want to get rid of it right away. It's best to address the problem as soon as you discover it. Allowing mold to get out of control is both hazardous to your health and costly to eliminate.

The bad news is that you cannot completely get rid of house mold. Mold spores can be found in house dust and air particles. The best way to nip the problem in the bud is to control the moisture issues in your home. This is the main source of house mold.

Once you have cleaned up the mold you need to address any leaks or damp areas. Your house mold problem will probably reoccur if leaks and other sources of moisture are allowed to continue. You may also have to refurnish when you have a house mold problem.

Carpets and furniture that have been attacked by mold need to be thrown out and replaced. Any porous material that is affected by mold needs to be replaced as mold can still grow in any cracks. Painting over mold is also a bad idea.

You will find that any moldy surface that has been painted over will start to peel and the problem will still be there. Use a strong detergent when cleaning moldy surfaces. You will need to scrub very hard to get rid of all mold. Remember to dry anything you have cleaned thoroughly.
