This happens when the body is flooded with adrenaline due to sympathetic nervous system. Panic attack may last for hours, or just for few seconds. However, it is one of the most distressing conditions that a person experiences. The symptoms of panic attack disorder last for approximately half an hour, but at times, it can be as short as just a few seconds. Panic attack begins abruptly, and includes chest sensations, tingling, and anxiousness. Panic attacks in children can cause decline in grades, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, depression and avoiding school.


There are variety of treatments available for panic attack disorder, including medications and certain forms of psychotherapy. There are few simple things you can do to overcome this disorder. The connections or associations between feared situations or objects and the response are learned or formed. At times, the person suffering from the panic attack does not identify a specific situation or object that sets off the reaction, and it may seem general, vague or mysterious. You need to say to yourself that this is not your fault, and try to get out of guilt feeling. There is no guaranteed way to prevent these attacks, but getting the treatment can reduce the frequency, and make the attacks less severe. If left untreated, the symptoms may become worse to an extent that person's life gets seriously affected. However, you just need to try to stay calm, and convince yourself that it will get over soon.


To make treatment more effective, the person should avoid taking alcohol, caffeine and drugs as they worsen the panic attacks. The treatment includes helping the person break the association between the feared, and the panic reaction to it. Yoga and deep breathing are good ways to relax body and mind, and help decrease the severity and frequency of panic attacks. You can learn some special relaxation techniques that can be used during the panic attack. The techniques used in this therapy help combat the set pattern, and free the person so that he or she can resume the normal level of functioning. It is important to treat this condition, else, the symptoms become worse and seriously affect person's life. It is however important to keep in mind that though panic attacks are serious, these are not immediately organ-threatening.It will also be beneficial if you join a top disorder forum. Join a support group, so that you can share your experience, and learn from others. Just stick to your treatment plan, and stay physically active.
