Different Types Of Home Pregnancy Tests Available

If you are trying to conceive or think that you might be pregnant, chances are that you have already thought about buying and taking a home pregnancy test. Home pregnancy tests are relatively new devices that can tell you in the comfort of your own home whether or not you are pregnant. Years ago, a woman had to go to a doctor in order to learn whether or not she was pregnant. The term “the rabbit's dead” as a pregnancy announcement is in reference to the fact that early pregnancy tests used to include rabbits: if the rabbit died after the procedure, the woman was pregnant. The only options were to wait it out or go to the doctor. Now, however, home pregnancy tests are popular, cheap, and very useful.

Digital Versus Traditional

Traditional pregnancy tests are probably some of the cheapest tests available. You can purchase these at any pharmacy, department store, or even online. With these tests you urinate directly on the test strip, close the cap, and wait for the lines to appear. These tests have one control line that will always show up. Depending on the test, the non control line that shows whether you are pregnant or not is a horizontal line making a cross on the window or a parallel line making two parallel lines in the window. Whichever way the line goes, these traditional home pregnancy tests have a second line that shows whether or not you are pregnant.

Digital home pregnancy tests, however, are slightly different. These tests are also home pregnancy tests where you urinate on the test strip, close the cap, and wait for a response. However, these tests take the difficulty of reading the lines out. With traditional tests it is common to get an evaporation line that appears after the allotted time limit or sometimes even before the time limit. Some women can interpret this to be a positive pregnancy test. However, with a digital test you will have either “pregnant” or “not pregnant” (or sometimes “yes” or “no”), so you will absolutely know whether or not you are pregnant.

Cheap Pregnancy Tests

Cheap home pregnancy tests are also available. Instead of spending ten or fifteen dollars on a pregnancy test at the pharmacy or department store, you can simply go to the dollar store and get a home pregnancy test for a dollar. Some people think that these tests are subpar or not equal to the other tests, however, there really is no best pregnancy test and they are just as good and register just the same amount of the pregnancy hormone as the more expensive tests.
