How Teenage Pregnancy Research Helps People Understand The Issue

Teenage pregnancy research is very important in helping the nation understand the issues associated with teenage pregnancy and how to help the people affected. Teenage pregnancy research shows the areas that are most affected and should be targeted to curb the rate at which these teenage girls are getting pregnant. This is an issue that affects many communities in the United States and many of these communities have begun to take steps to ensure that young girls are not deprived of their education because they have gotten pregnant and the number of children living in poverty because they were born to teenage mothers is reduced.

How Does Pregnancy Affect A Teenager?

Teenage pregnancy research indicates that teenagers that become pregnant are more likely to drop out of school, destroying their chances of continuing their education and eliminating any hope of obtaining a good job to support themselves and their child. In many cases, the new mother is overwhelmed quickly by the enormity of raising a child, putting both herself and the child at risk for harm. The newborn child often ends up raised by the parents or grandparents of the teenager, if not given up for adoption as soon as it is born, adding more infants to the already overcrowded children's services industry.

What Gains Have Been Made With The Issue

In recent years, teenage pregnancy research has indicated that the number of teenage pregnancies has declined by a substantial rate. Experts in teenage pregnancy research believe that the numbers have declined because of better education about the consequences of sex before marriage and the availability of information about safe sex practices. Whatever has contributed in the decline in teenage pregnancies, the trend is one that many communities would be happy to help continue.

One thing that all experts that work on teenage pregnancy research agree on is that the pregnancy rate in teenagers can only be reduced by educating the teenagers about the dangers associated with promiscuous sexual activity and how to keep themselves safe from harm. Teenagers are old enough to understand the relationship between cause and effect and it is important that they receive the right information about sex and pregnancy in a controlled environment rather than depend on information from their friends. If they have the correct information from a source that they trust, such as established teenage pregnancy research, they will be more likely to make the right decisions when faced with a difficult decision.
