The consumption of food is not only meant to satisfy one's physiological needs, which is hunger. Food, more than anything else should nourish the body that it feeds. Research shows that animal-fat rich diet can expose to the risk of certain diseases like hypertension and prostate cancer while too high-calorie diet can expose us to the risk of acquiring diabetes. All these can show much important a diet can be in attaining an optimum health.

Prostate cancer is a debilitating disease that has affected thousands of American men who are at the prime of their lives. The risks of getting prostate cancer can be lessened when we are diligent enough to follow a strict diet. Those who have already been affected with cancer can still follow prostate cancer diet to inhibit and slow the progression of the disease.

Prostate cancer diet has been proven effective to minimize the growth of cancer cells and studies show that prostate cancer diet can also prevent the acquisition of cancer. Prostate cancer diet need not be expensive. In fact, the recommended food to eat and supplements to take are produced abundantly and very affordable too.

Soy and other soy products like tofu and soymilk have been found to be rich in isoflavone. Isoflavone has been studied several times and been proven to lessen the risk of prostate cancer. It was found out in a study that Japanese men have lower risk of prostate cancer than American men. The determining factor that made the difference is the diet of Japanese men, which is rich in soy and other soy products.

Tomato and tomato-based products are also good for prostate cancer prevention and treatment. Tomato is rich in lycopene, which is an excellent anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants like lycopene can inhibit the growth and progress of malignant cells. Processed tomatoes like tomato paste, ketchup and sauce are rich in lycopene than the raw tomato because lycopene is released from the tomatoes once they are cooked. Watermelon, red guava, pink grapefruit are also rich in lycopene.

Selenium, which is found in garlic, seafood and grains, is a mineral that can boost the immune system and can also lower the risk of prostate cancer. Selenium is also available in bottled food supplement.

A healthy body can be achieved with a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals coupled with a regular exercise. What we eat today will bear fruit as we grow older, because we are what we eat.
