Prostate Health

When a man reached the prime of his life, he must have attained something. Being in his golden years, he must be enjoying the fruit of his labors. But not all that glitter is gold. Just when he is about to retire from his work, his health condition is put to the test, including his prostate.

According to the World Health Organization, health is defined as the "state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity", while the report on Men, Ageing and Health of WHO states that the "process of ageing" is the biological progression that is greatly affected by the influence of the environment, disease, and chosen lifestyle.

Three common diseases that might affect men's prostate are, prostitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia and the most dreaded of all is prostate cancer. The causes of BPH and prostate cancer are not yet identified however; the risk factors had been determined. Age, race, genetic, lifestyle, and diet are the risk factors that might lead to the acquisition of the disease. The likelihood of older men to acquire these diseases is higher especially is the all the risk factors are present.

Older men who have reached the age of 40 and above are exposed to greater risk of acquiring prostate-related diseases. Research shows that most men who are 50 years old and above are prone to getting benign prostatic hyperplasia while those who are 60 above have a higher predilection to acquire prostate cancer. Men who are 40 above are advised to undergo any prostate exam in order to monitor their prostate health.

Animal fat-rich diet is linked to increase the chances of getting prostate cancer while diet that is high in fruit and vegetables have been fund to decrease the risk of acquiring prostate cancer. Race and genes have been found to expose men of the grater risk of prostate diseases like cancer.

Prostate health is thus very important to maintain since the presence of any factor that will put men in greater risk will affect his health especially his prostate. Because of the need to take care of their prostate health, the U.S. has listed 200,000 instances of doctor visits due to benign prostatic hyperplasia. On the other hand the cases of prostate cancer among American men is increasing every year in spite the presence of recent clinical breakthroughs on prostate.

Disease and ageing may affect the quality of life of men, therefore it is imperative that men should take charge in achieving optimal prostate health so the remaining life years can be enjoyed. Attaining excellent prostate health might be one of the greatest hurdles of American men, but it can be done.
