Hydrocortisone As A Treatment For Prostate Cancer

While being a pharmaceutical treatment for a varied kind of conditions, Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer has seen extensive use. But the use of Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer is always accompanied by several other cancer growth inhibiting compound.

Hydrocortisone, for its action in the immune system, is known to be a moderate anti-prostate cancer agent.

A proposal for the use Ketoconazole plus Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer has been proposed at the Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI) after several laboratory testing in 2002 that showed miraculous successes in suppressing the growth of cancer. The published clinical trials have involved using High Dose Ketoconazole plus Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer (abbreviated as HDK + HC) to a number of prostate cancer patients, 17 men with metastasis prostate cancer previously untreated. The conclusion had shown impressive results: 88% decrease in pain in all of them, and two of them had complete remission showing no cancer manifestation 30 months post treatment.

A next study involving lower dosages of Ketoconazole plus Hydrocortisone still had excellent results. Now the subjects were 28 patients with progressive prostate cancer and had previous treatment: castrated levels of testosterone and continuing testicular androgen suppression. Though the Low Dose Ketoconazole plus Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer (abbreviated as LDK + HC) remains still inconclusive, 13 of the 28 patients had a lowering PSA density levels, as much as 50%.

Ketoconazole was not the only compound used in junction with Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer. Large scale clinical trials involving the compound Suramin has shown similar clinical benefits. In this clinical trial, the researchers have determined that 43% of the patients had also experienced pain reduction that lasted roughly three quarters of a year. Aside from that, the compound Suramin had shown to be able to efficiently retard the prostate cancer’s progression. The conclusion was obtained when a similarly diagnosed patients receiving Hydrocortisone plus another compound is compared to another group taking Hydrocortisone plus Suramin.

Prostate cancer, affecting several millions of Americans, has blown into a serious aging man’s epidemic. And because some of these cancer diseases are particularly resilient, especially androgen independent strains, it makes the early method of anti-androgen withdrawal ineffective. What’s more, there’s no way to determine if the progression to an androgen-independent state has occurred. That’s why secondary hormonal manipulation using Hydrocortisone as a treatment for prostate cancer is being keenly pursued.
