Identifying The Signs Of Prostate Problems

Prostate problems are quite common in men who are older than fifty because hormonal changes can cause the gland to increase in size quite rapidly and this puts extra pressure on the bladder and urethra. However, that does not mean that there are no cases of prostate problems in young men. Indeed prostate cancer can strike at any age and the symptoms are very similar to those of other prostate problems such as BPH and prostatitis. What's more severe cases of BPH can lead to complications such as kidney and urinary tract infections or bladder stones if left untreated. Therefore it is very important that men of all ages are able to recognize the signs of prostate problems.

Passing Urine

The most obvious signs of prostate problems concern the passage of urine and bladder control. For instance a man who has the frequent urge to urinate coupled with a feeling that he is never quite able to fully empty his bladder may have a problem with his prostate gland. Pain on urination, difficulty urinating, a weak urine stream, traces of blood in the urine and several trips to the bathroom during the night are also signs of prostate problems. A man who has something wrong with his prostate may also experience the dribbling or leaking of urine after visiting the bathroom.

Other Symptoms

Not all of the signs of prostate problems are associated with a man's ability to pass urine. Other signs of prostate problems include flu like symptoms, fatigue, chills, fever, pain in the groin, lower back, testicles, rectum or abdomen and discomfort on ejaculation. Obviously a man who experiences one or more of the symptoms and signs of prostate problems goes through a great deal of physical distress as well as frustration at the inconvenience.

See Your Doctor

Many older men who have a mild form of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) simply learn to live with their condition despite the inconvenience it causes. However, if you experience any of the symptoms and signs of prostate problems you really should see your doctor and ask for a checkup. In most cases a man who experiences the symptoms and signs of prostate problems either has BPH or prostatitis. These conditions are fairly easy to treat with prescription medications, analgesics and physical therapy. However, the symptoms may be indicative of prostate cancer which is obviously a lot more serious and medical tests are required in order to rule it out. No man should ever just ignore the signs of prostate problems since doing so could prove fatal.
