What Is The Prostate?

The prostate is a very important part of the human body. It is a compound tubuloalveolar exocrine gland of the male reproductive system. The prostate plays a very important role in the male body, by being part of the reproductive system and its main function is to make part of the liquid, the seminal fluid that mixes with sperm from the testicles in order to make semen.

The prostate is about the size of a large walnut, and it is located close to the rectum. There are various different problems that can be associated with the prostate, but one of the most common issues is cancer of the prostate.

How it Happens

Prostate cancer is very common, and an extremely dangerous condition that can even be deadly. There are a few common causes of this cancer that you are going to want to be aware of, so that you can avoid them as much as you can and hopefully not develop the caner yourself.

In some people, there is a genetic mutation which is inherited, and so if anyone in your family has developed prostate cancer, then you are going to be much more at risk and are going to have to make sure that you are on top of this and always watching out for any signs of the disease. Remember that there are some genes that don't directly cause cancer but which may make cells more vulnerable to carcinogens which are cancer causing agents.

A few risk factors to this cancer includes age over 65, family history, race, geography, and weight. If you are physically inactive, you are going to be much more likely to develop this cancer, or any other for that matter. That is why doctors are constantly stressing that people need to get up and get active as much as they can.

You need to be aware of the symptoms of this cancer, because then if you were ever experiencing any of them you would know that this may be the cancer that you are suffering from. This cancer can result in pain by pressing on the spine or pelvis, burning or pain when urinating, blood to appear in the urine or semen, and pain or stiffness in the lower back and upper thighs. These are just a few of the most commonly experienced symptoms.

As you can see, the prostate is a very important part of the male reproductive system and one that you need to make sure that you take care of.
