Snoring Prevention For Better Sleep

Snoring prevention is a serious matter. Many people treat it lightly thinking that snoring is no big deal. Did you know that snoring could actually cut off oxygen to the brain that results in serious health problems like type II diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Although this does not happen in every case it s certainly worth taking note of and finding ways to stop snoring.

Snoring prevention is easy for some and others cannot simply deal with it with over the counter medication. If you have tried sleeping on your side, nasal strips and throat sprays then it might be time to look at surgery as an option. It may sound extreme but for some people this is the only way.

Pillar Procedure

The soft palate in your mouth is the main culprit when it comes to snoring. Snoring prevention that involves stiffening the soft palate would make complete sense. The Pillar Procedure is a good way of snoring prevention that is relatively painless and can be done quickly. In this procedure implants that are about 18 mm long and 2 mm in diameter are placed into the soft palate.

This can be done in your doctor s office with only local anaesthesia to handle the pain. Over time the implants will add structural support and help to stiffen the soft palate. This will stop the soft palate from vibrating at night when you sleep thus eliminating the problem of snoring. This has proved to be a very effective method of snoring prevention.

Surgery

Surgery to prevent snoring is also another way that is now seen as good snoring prevention. There is more than one type of surgery that is carried out by doctors to cure snoring. Cautery assisted uvulopalatoplasty is considered one of the most effective surgeries.

Patients reported little pain post-surgery and also reported that they had very effective results and it is also the easiest procedure. The other surgeries are seen as less effective as snoring prevention was only temporary with snoring returning within a year and a half to two years.

Talk to your doctor about the best way to overcome your snoring. Surgery may not be the first thing that you should try. Trying other less intrusive methods of preventing your snoring is worth looking into. You may need to look into having a sleep study done to diagnose your snoring. This way your doctor can better understand how to treat your snoring.
