Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins Have Many Factors In Their Inception

If you are looking for information on varicose veins, you problems already know the symptoms, an enlarged dark colored vein that protrudes from the leg. The vein itches, is painful, they cause swelling, increased healing time in the area of the vein, scars in the skin, and scratching can cause open sores. In addition, there is heaviness in the legs, swelling of the ankles and numerous other problems with varicose veins.

What you probably want to know is what causes varicose veins. Unfortunately, the cause of varicose veins is not an easy or simple answer, because it’s a variety of factors. The first is that varicose veins are more common in women than in men and thus seem to be genetically linked as one cause of varicose veins. In addition, they are linked with heredity and you are more likely to have them if one of your parents has them. However, other reasons can come into play as a cause of varicose veins. Items such as pregnancy, obesity, menopause, aging, prolonged standing, leg injury and abdominal straining are all related to varicose veins. However, none of them alone seem to be the cause of varicose veins.

At it’s base level, the valves in the veins in the legs do not close properly and the blood backs up and causes damage to the vein, creating the varicose vein. The varicose veins then continue to cause the valves more damage and the varicose veins become bigger and more damage is done to the vein.

While it may be any combination of factors that have caused your varicose veins, their existence and your difficulties with them. However, the genetic and hereditary factors come together, you probably wish to know the cause of varicose veins to alleviate them. However, like the factors causing varicose veins, the treatments are numerous and varied. Mostly it depends on the severity of your varicose veins and your doctor. Treatment is everything from surgical support type stockings to surgery. Since the blood is actually backing up raising and keeping your feet raised to a level above your heart helps. This forces the blood out of the legs and gives the veins some relief from the pressure of the backed up blood.

The relief from this raising of the legs is only temporary. You need to talk with a doctor about stopping the further damage or repairing the damage. This problem can be more serious than the fact that it is unsightly. The damage to the vein may become too great to be repairable.
