Varicose Veins' Pregnancy Effects

Varicose veins are unsightly veins that can bulge out when the veins are disfigured. The causes of varicose veins vary but many researchers believe that genetics may play a role in passing down this condition. On the other hand, straining or prolonged periods of standing of sitting can also encourage the appearance of these veins. Varicose veins' pregnancy effects can be seen in the stomach and the legs and maybe some other parts of the body. A major factor to having varicose veins if a malfunction of the valves in the veins to draw blood from the extremities to the heart.

The Effects Of Pregnancy

Varicose veins and pregnancy may go together because the pressure that the increasing size of the child can affect the inferior vena cava, a vein that carries the blood from the legs to your heart. Veins in the legs bring the blood up to the heart for cleansing but when there is pressure due to gravity and the sheer pressure of one's own weight, varicose veins can be the result. Varicose veins' pregnancy effect is the discomfort that usually comes as the weight of the individual increases.

Another effect that results to varicose veins pregnancy appearance is the increase of progesterone levels in the mother's body as the pregnancy progresses. Progesterone encourages the relaxation of tissues which may include those of the veins and capillaries resulting to the individual being more prone to varicose veins. Varicose veins during pregnancy may be difficult to get rid off after the gestational period since the interior damage of the veins has already been done. More complicated methods of getting rid of varicose veins pregnancy appearance may be necessary.

The increasing weight of the woman may also play a huge role in varicose veins' pregnancy occurrences. Normally, prolonged standing and sitting increases one's tendency to have varicose veins due to the pressure of our weight on our legs and our stomach. Being pregnant and having a sudden increase in weight can add undue pressure to the legs for standing and stomach and buttocks for sitting. Varicose veins' pregnancy occurrences tend to increase as the woman progresses in her pregnancy.

Many women tend to be constipated during pregnancy. Constipation can lead to straining while moving the bowels which in turn can lead to varicose veins on the stomach or any other part of the body which is strained. Varicose veins' pregnancy occurrences can be due to many other things but increase in weight, undue straining and increase in progesterone levels are the major factors to it.
