Possible Causes Of A Female Yeast Infection

Yeast infections are quite common. When a woman develops a female yeast infection she often feels very gross and depressed because it is certainly not a fun condition to deal with, but she shouldn't feel bad because most women will get at least one yeast infection in their life. A lot of people mistake a female yeast infection for being a type of sexually transmitted disease but this is not the case even though the symptoms can be quite similar which makes it such a common assumption. A female yeast infection, which is also known as vaginitis, is a condition that occurs when the chemical balance of the vagina has become disturbed. To find the cause of a female yeast infection the first step is to determine just what type of yeast infection a woman is dealing with.

The first step will be determining what type of yeast infection a woman has. It may be a basic yeast infection or it could be anything from infections vaginitis to atrophic vaginitis which only occurs in women who have reached menopause. A medical professional will be able to perform a few tests and quickly find out what cause of yeast infection is present. If it is infections vaginitis for instance the probable cause is an infection with bacteria or yeast. Basic yeast infections can occur for a number of different reasons, one or more of which may be the case in any woman. Even a poor diet can result in a female yeast infection. Whatever the cause is, it is important to get this figured out because then you won't be going through trial and error to find a treatment. Once the cause of a female yeast infection is determined, treatment can start.

Monistat is often used to treat yeast infections and this is a product that can be found in any drugstore. Most women have seen the commercials and have a basic idea of how Monistat works. It is used to treat the symptoms of a female yeast infection which includes itching, burning and a discharge that resembles cottage cheese. Home remedies can work well but for women with recurring yeast infections they are often just not enough. Yogurt, apple cider and garlic have all proven to work effectively. Female yeast infections are never fun to deal with but at least there are more than enough options for treatment today. There are also things you can do to avoid getting yeast infections in the future and that includes wearing cotton underwear that is loose fitting around the vagina.
