Making Magic Tricks Easy To Learn – Yes, It Is Possible!

If you're a budding magician, you need to learn magic tricks. The easiest way to learn them is to follow this simple five-part method. Whether your magic trick is easy or more difficult, getting to the point where you can perform it for others can be simpler than you thought. Whether your magic trick is for kids or adults, these steps can help you become confident and skilled.

First – Get It All Together

In the most obvious first move, you need to be sure you have everything that your magic trick requires. Easy or hard as the trick is, all the materials are needed. Whether it is a deck of cards, or a dollar bill and a lemon, or a silk and your hand, have available the items that are needed to successfully complete the effect.

Read It Through

Next, read through the usually easy directions for the magic trick. If the writer of the directions did a good job, one part flows into the other, and the explainations are clear. If not, you may need to read it through a second or third time. Whatever it takes, make sure you have the gist of how the effect flows. Does the magic trick use cards, easy to watch but tricky to do? Understand how those aces get back to the top. Is it a coin effect, where they disappear from one hand and appear under another? Know how the magic wand makes that happen.

Practice Slowly, Then Practice Faster

Now is the time to actually put the hands in motion. Following the directions carefully, try the magic effect as best you can. If some part doesn't work, try it again until it does. Practice again, gradually increasing the speed and ease with which you can do the trick.

Learn The Patter

The “patter” is the words that go along with the magic trick. Unless you plan to do your magic trick silently – not as easy as it sounds – you will need to learn what words work best with your trick. You need to say things that lead your audience along in the story, or that tell the half-truths that “fit” with what you're showing them, but doesn't give them too much information. Often, the book you are learning the magic trick from gives the easy patter to use. If so, feel free to memorize it.

Putting It All Together

Once you've got the hand motions, and learned the patter, all that's left is to put it all together. Again, starting slowly and gradually increasing as you get more comfortable, work your way through it.

Before you know it, after probably dozens of tries, your magic trick will look easy – just the way it is supposed to appear to the audience!
