What Can You Find In A Magic Trick Store?

Everybody is intrigued by a store that sells magic tricks. What could be inside? From the window, you can see many things inside – but it's hard to tell what's really in there. Should you venture inside? Would you learn how the tricks are done – the explanation behind the magic? What could you discover? Is there stuff you would be interested in buying, if you knew it exists? Do they even let non-magicians go in?

For Those Interested In Corny Gag

If you like practical jokes and gags, you can often find a lot of those types of products in a store that sells magic tricks. There will likely be fake dog droppings, or artificial vomit, destined to gross someone out. There will probably also be whoopie cushions – since “everybody” knows someone they want to spring that gag on. And in among the colorful gags and grossities, there will be the magic effects.

For The New Magician

People who are just getting started in magic need tricks that are less likely to get messed up if the nervous magician forgets something he meant to say or do. These tricks, collectively, are known as “self-working tricks”. They are a forgiving bunch of simple tricks; and any magic store will have several for sale. There will also be plenty of packs of face cards. Usually there will be a few different kinds – those that are specially-designed to perform certain tricks, and others that are just plain, ordinary cards.

For The Experienced Magician

Those who have been performing magic for quite a while already are familiar with the old favorites that new magicians are just learning. They've already got a set of cups and balls, or linking rings, and they've got a broken in deck of “Bee” cards to use when they play Three Card Monte with an unsuspecting victim – I mean customer. They aren't on the lookout for the usual tricks – the experienced magician needs something new.

So when the experienced magician enters a store that sells magic tricks, he is on the lookout for something he hasn't seen before. Maybe it is a special effect that has been shown in Genie magazine. Or maybe it is something special that the store owner worked up and is selling on a small scale to see how good the reception is before he launches production on a full scale. Those are the gems that the older magician is hoping to find when he goes into a store that sells magic tricks.
