Three Easy Quilting Projects

For beginners who are not sure what their first quilting projects would be, there are many resources where you can get ideas for quilting projects. Browse through quilting books, online sites, catalogs and magazines. All of these feature quilting projects for beginners and experienced quilters alike. Here are a few easy quilting projects to get you started:

* Easy Quilt
You can make the quilt any size you want. You can start by cutting a cotton fabric into a 6-inch square. Fold this piece over to make a triangle with the wrong side of the fabric out. Then, sew each side but leave a one-inch gap. Turn the triangle piece inside out. With a knitting needle, place one nylon stocking into one-inch gap. Distribute the stuffing evenly. Make more of these triangles and stitch them together to form a square in your desired size. To finish the quilt, use a wide fold bias tape on the edges.

* Terrycloth Quilt
Use hand towels or wash cloths to make this unique quilt. Cut the cloths into seven-inch squares. Stitch rows of cloths in different colors or designs until you have completed the quilt in your desired size. Decorate the edges of the quilt with some ruffle in a color that goes well with the quilt.

* Patchwork curtains
Add a country feel to your home with patchwork curtains. Simply collect an assortment of printed fabrics. You can lay them out first to see how well they will go together before you start quilting. You will also need one fabric sheet for the backing. The size of the curtain will of course depend on the size of your window or doorway. Start by planning the layout or design of the fabrics. Cut the fabrics in varying sizes of rectangles and stitch the strips together to make the curtain. For backing, cut the fabric sheet into the same size as your completed quilt. Stitch the two fabrics together right sides in. Leave a gap so you can turn the cloth right side out after sewing, after which you can stitch the gap closed. For the curtain loops, you can use fabric or metal grommets.

These three quilting projects are quick and easy to do perfect for those just beginning to quilt. The great thing is there are numerous free quilting projects and patterns available so with a little research, you can get more of these simple ideas and instructions for your quilting projects.
