A Variety Of Games For Your Baby Shower

The news is good and a little one is on the way. The perfect baby shower has been planned with a beautiful theme and wonderful food. There is just one thing left – fun. A traditional part of these parties are baby shower games. The question is what kinds of games do people expect and what will be most enjoyable for the mother-to-be as well as the guests?

Traditional Games

Some of the favorite games at baby showers are the tried and true traditions. One example is the “I Remember” game. This baby shower game can be adapted in a number of ways. It can be a simple one where the mother-to-be leaves the room and the guests try to remember such things as what she was wearing, her eye color and other innocuous details. To make it more of a keepsake, add some questions about when she was born or what she was doing when she found out she was expecting. Details like that make for fun stories to share once the child is older.

Another simple baby shower game is “baby bingo”. For this game, bingo cards are made up, but in place of the traditional numbers, each square is filled with a gift. As the mother-to-be opens her gifts, the corresponding items are covered until someone gets a “bingo”. These cards can either be pre-filled by the hostess or can be left blank to be filled by the guests instead.

There is also perennial favorite guessing the baby’s birth date, height and weight. If the parents haven’t chosen a name yet, adding a name option to that game can be even more fun. These are just a small sample of the traditional baby shower games available.

Other Game Options

Some games that are more recent developments include things such as guessing how big the mother-to-be’s belly is. Guests are given a roll of toilet paper and cut it at the length they think will fit perfectly around her belly. The guest who guesses closest wins. One caveat with this game choice, pregnant women who are self-conscious about their burgeoning belly may not enjoy this choice of baby shower game very much.

A new twist on an old favorite is baby name twist. This is played just like traditional word twist. However, in this case, the baby’s name is the word to be twisted. Prizes can be awarded for most words, longest words, and most baby-applicable words (for example: diaper, pacifier, nap).

Another newer baby shower game is perfect for memory books. In this game, guests are asked to guess what skills or traits the parents-to-be want their child to inherit from whom. The parents’ answers are read aloud after time is up and guests score their lists accordingly.

Some choices that are not games precisely but can be very helpful to the new parents are advice cards. These can be filled out as serious advice (for example: teach your baby to fall asleep on their own) or as silly advice (for example: don’t forget to wear a raincoat when feeding your baby), or both. These cards can provide new parents with both assistance and laughter when needed.

As you can see, baby shower games run the gamut from the tried and true to the truly novel. As the host, you want to ensure that the games are fun for everyone. Use your imagination and these suggestions to come up with games that suit the mother-to-be and the guests who will be attending the party.
