A long time ago, face painting was used as a defense mechanism during wars where warriors would paint their faces with different designs to either intimidate or scare off their enemies. Nowadays, face painting is done solely for fun reasons unlike before. This activity is usually a really big hit at children’s parties where you’ll see the kids lining up to get their face painted with colorful designs. If you want to do face painting by yourself, here are various tips you can use to make it smooth and fun.

Primarily, you need to look for face painting designs. If you want to use more designs, you can check some face painting books in the bookstore or you can also search for them on the internet. Be sure to print the designs you like and compile them in a clear book so you can use them over and over. These designs will be your guide when you face paint or when you ask the artist to face paint the kids.

After collecting the designs, you can now purchase the materials you may need for face painting. You will be needing face paint, brushes and sponges. Before you go shopping for the materials you'll use, know first how many kids are expected to attend the event. Remember to check and recheck if the paint you’ll be purchasing is really for the face. It would be better if you would use hypo allergenic face paint just to be sure. It is recommendable that you use good quality brushes which you can reuse and not the cheap ones which could just be thrown away after a single use. Make sure that you wash all these materials properly before the event.

If there are so many kids at the party, be sure to have more than one person doing the face painting. Painting kids' faces could be tiring, too, so it is best to have a back-up plan and have some people help you out also. Let the kids choose what design they want by showing them the compilation of the designs you have. You can always modify the color scheme depending on what the kids want. Give the kids the power to design what they want and just ask them to describe it to you.

Kids and adults could both enjoy face painting activity. You can allow the kids to do the painting on his/her friends' faces but make sure that they won't make a mess. Adults are also welcome in the face painting booth of they want to. These are just a few tips on how to do face painting the basic rule is; have fun!
