New Years Resolutions And Driving

Each year, many Americans make New Year's resolutions. Some of the most common goals set include getting out of debt and losing weight, but you may want to take a different approach. Would you like your New Year's resolution to focus on driving? If so, here are a few goals you can set for yourself:

To drive less. Towards the close of 2008, gas prices started to decline. For most Americans, there is no more having to worry about $4 gas. The decrease in gas prices is causing many to return to their cars and their previous driving habits, but continued low gas prices aren't guaranteed. The best way to ensure you save money on gasoline is to drive less and make it a habit. In addition to less money spent on gasoline, driving less also reduces vehicle wear and tear.

When it comes to driving less, many Americans automatically think it isn't possible. In most cases, it is. If you are unable to carpool or take public transportation to and from work, examine your other activities. Do you make a special trip each week to get groceries? If so, just stop and shop on your way home from work. By tracking your driving habits for one or two weeks, you may be surprised how many ways you can reduce the miles driven.

To get car serviced regularly. Many car owners avoid getting their car serviced regularly due to costs. Yes, it is important to save money, but did you know that you can waste even more money by not getting your vehicle needed attention? You can. Be sure to have your oil changed, have your tires changed or rotated, and replace your air filters. Doing so will not only save you money, but it results in a safer and better valued car.

If money prevents you from getting your car serviced regularly, look for good deals. Always call around to local repair shops to compare prices. Also, use the internet to find money saving discounts. It is not uncommon to find printable coupons or money saving coupon codes. And, always remember that a regularly serviced car is likely to save you more money in the long run.

To buy a new car. Are you driving around a old "beater," car? If so, you may want to make a change. What better time than the New Year? Whether you want to buy a new car or used car, set the goal for yourself. With today's economy, it seems as if you must have perfect credit to get a loan. If you do not and have reliable transportation right now, save money. Use that money to buy a car or use that money to cleanup your credit so you qualify for an auto loan with a low interest rate.

To drive safer. Although we all try to be safe when driving, it is no secret that some are careful than others. Do you talk on your cell phone, eat, or play with the radio when driving? These are small tasks, but very risky when driving. Make it your New Year's resolution to improve your driving. Whether it be focusing only on driving or leaving five minutes early so you aren't in a rush, do it.

To lower car insurance. If you have been with the same insurance provider for years, you may be paying too much for car insurance. The only way you will know is if you price compare. Make it your New Year's resolution to lower your car insurance. Even if you can't find a lower rate elsewhere, improve your driving, pay your car insurance in full, or opt for automatic payment withdrawals, as you should be rewarded with a discount.
