Wedding Dress Alterations

When you have a wedding dress made or have purchased one, there is a strong chance that there will be some alterations made. This should be done a week or two in advance so this will fit perfectly on your special day.

There are three types of wedding dress alterations. These are namely, bodice alterations, hemming and shortening of the sleeves. Let's talk about this in more detail.

Most wedding dresses need a hem and how much it costs depends on the number of layers, the type of fabric that the professional has to work with and the type of decoration and finish. In some cases, the wedding dress may require crinoline slips that also need to be hemmed.

For bodice alterations to be done, the professional will have to remove the lace and beading and then reapply this again. In the event that this has to be pieced, additional lace and beading is performed to hide the seam lines. This happens very rarely so this is one of the least of your worries.

The same goes for sleeve length if your wedding dress does not have any sleeves. But if your wedding dress has sleeves and alterations are needed, this could take some time to finish.

The reason why adjustments in these areas are still needed is simply because it is possible that you may have gained or lost some weight before the big day and you would like to make sure that everything is just perfect.

Aside from the three types of alterations commonly done, you should also check if the wedding dress needs to be bustled. This is usually discussed by the professional before this is done because this greatly depends on the decoration of the train.

If the wedding dress was purchased, alterations should only be done by someone who has years of experience. The best place to go to is a bridal shop because they do this for a living. If you hired a designer to make your outfit, it is his or her responsibility to make these last minute adjustments.

There is no standard rate when it comes to altering your wedding dress as this is depends on the work that needs to be done. You should know though that if this is rush job, most professionals will charge double.

Given that you are not the only client that will have her wedding dress altered, you should have this done at least 6 to 8 weeks before the big day. It is best to draw up a contract so if there are any problems, you can take the proper action to have this matter corrected.

If you haven't found someone yet to alter your wedding dress, don't panic and ask family members and friends to recommend a professional that is willing to take on the project. After all, it takes a lot of work just like sewing the dress so it is only right to have this done by someone you can trust.

There are so many things to work on before your wedding takes place. You have to send out the invitations, select where the ceremony and venue will be done, choose a motif, who is part of the entourage, where the honeymoon will be and the list goes on. Since everyone will be looking at what you will be wearing when you walk down the aisle, make sure that all the alterations for your wedding dress are done in advance so this will fit perfectly on that special day.
