Mom You Should Open A Restaurant

Mom, You Should Open a Restaurant

One of the great joys of motherhood is cooking wonderful meals for your family. Small wonder so many moms become such truly great cooks that when you take a dish to a potluck, people are expressive about how great your cooking is. How many times have you put a special dish in front of your family and taken that special "mom joy" from those happy eating sounds as the people you love gobble down the food you made for them. And when one of your kids can contain himself no longer and blurts out, "Mom, you should open a restaurant!" that really touches your heart.

When the time comes for you to consider becoming a work at home mom so you can devote yourself to caring for your family, the best type of business to start at home will be the one that is structured around you skills. So your ability to make people applaud and praise your cooking is a skill that is marketable if you can find a way to offer your cooking for sale and keep it as a home based business.

Despite the enthusiasm of your youngster, starting a restaurant doesn't fit the model of a home based business. But starting a catering business fits that model nicely. You can prepare the dishes you will offer to your customers at home and take them in specialized equipment that will keep everything hot and ready to serve as they are transported to the catering site. This is a great way to take your love of cooking and your many wonderful recipes that were refined feeding your family and using those to start a business where most of the work happens in the home.

This is also a good business to do as a married couple if your husband is well suited for the deliver part of the catering equation. Now many catering operations offer service options as part of the packages they sell. But staying at a banquet and serving the food does not have to be part of what you offer as a catering service. You can offer a package where you prepare and deliver the food ready to serve but the personnel of the facility or the individuals hosting the function take it from there.

People who host large parties often need a professional catering service to deliver home cooked meals that they can simply take out of the warmers and serve. Your food will be your strongest selling point. Because you are starting with recipes that you created to feed your family, your meals will have that "home cooking" taste that will outshine restaurant meals every time. As more and more people learn about the great food you have to offer as part of your catering service, your home based business will become more and more in demand which will make your business grow and thrive.

Weddings and other banquet settings are also wonderful potential customers for your catering business. You can start out small and keep the size of functions you can cater to a limit based on how much food you can prepare and still keep your quality up. But as more people come to you for catering their functions and they offer you larger functions and more money, its up to you whether you want to expand the business to take on those challenges.

Using a catering service to become a work-at-home mom is also a good way to engage your kids in the business. When you expand those recipes from the family portions to make them suitable for larger groups, it is helpful to have your kids able to pitch in and help prepare the meals and get them ready to go to the customers. But just as important as the help they will give you is the sense of helping out and the family bonding that they will feel when you are able to work together for a big goal.
