Taking It Step By Step: Easy Candle Making

The easiest way to make candles is to make beeswax candles since they do not require the wax to be melted and they are not as messy as other types of candle making. However, there are other easy candle making recipes that can be found to make other types of candles, such as soy candles, votive candles or pillar candles.

Steps

The first step in the easy candle making process is to gather all of the supplies that are needed so that the process does not have to stop in the middle to go and get another supply from somewhere in the house. These instructions are for individuals who want to make the candles in their own kitchens. Before beginning the easy candle making process, the individual will need to have a one quart measuring cup, a glue gun, wicks, candle dye, fragrance oil, containers for the candles, soy wax and tweezers. The containers vary in size depending on the type of candles the individual wants to make. The larger the candle holder, the fewer the candles that will be made. All of the supplies can be found at most craft stores, although the best candle wax can usually be found at a specialty candle store or online.

Once the supplies are gathered, the individual will need to fill the measuring cup with the soy wax so that it is exactly at the thirty-two ounce mark. In order to melt the wax, the individual can put the container into the microwave and cook for about four minutes. Depending on the microwave, the time may need to be adjusted to fit the power of the microwave. Once the wax is melted, the amount in the container will now be at the sixteen ounce mark since it will have melted down. More soy wax should be added to the container so that it is again at the thirty-two ounce mark and again micro waved for the four minutes. This time the wax should still be at the thirty-two ounce mark when melted.

After this, the oven should be heated at the lowest setting so that it is warm. Once ten minutes have passed, the dye and the scent can be added to the mixture, with the dye being mixed in first and the scent being mixed in second. After that, the wax can be added to the containers. Once filled, the wicks should be pressed down into the wax with the tip of the wick being held steady by the tweezers so that it stays in the middle of the container. The containers can be placed on a cookie sheet and placed into the oven for about five minutes before turning the oven off. The door of the oven should remain closed until the candles have hardened.
