Important Requirements For Installation Of Pergo Flooring

Pergo invented laminate flooring. Pergo offers great variety of wood, stone, and tile in unique designs. Pergo flooring is easy to maintain, durable, and its beauty lasts for years. It has the beauty and benefits of hard surface flooring. Pergo flooring doesn't require significant subfloor preparation that's why they are less expensive to install compared to other flooring options. Since pergo flooring is installed as a floating floor, they are not nailed or glued to the subfloor.

Before starting installation of Pergo flooring, it is critical that you fully acquaint yourself with the detailed installation of instructions for your specific flooring and sub-floor type and conduct a job site evaluation to assure that environmental conditions are acceptable for installing Pergo flooring. Remove any existing quarter round molding; carpet and pad; and wood flooring if it is installed over a complete sub-floor. When using a leveling compound, be sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendation, and allow the compound to dry completely before starting to install the Pergo flooring.

Lay unopened cartons of Pergo flooring on the floor from 48 to 96 hours to let them adapt to the climate of the room, before beginning installation so the planks adjust to the specific temperature and humidity conditions of the room. A moisture test is recommended on all concrete and wood sub-floors constructed over a crawl space or basement. Before installing Pergo flooring, you must be sure that your job site condition as well as your moisture readings are acceptable to prevent excessive moisture from damaging any finished floor covering. The maximum acceptable moisture reading for wood sub-floors is 14%.

Pergo flooring expands and contracts with temperature humidity changes, it is essential that a 14” expansion space be left around the floor's perimeter to avoid flooring buckling. Depending on the type of Pergo flooring you purchased and your home's sub-floor type, you may also be required to install a sound underlayment and/or .15mm non-recycled resin polyethylene film as a moisture barrier beneath your Pergo floor.

Do not install Pergo flooring in a room with a floor drain and over a floor with a sump pump. Because the Pergo surface is resistant to water, Pergo laminate flooring can be installed in bathrooms. However, it is very important to prevent water or moisture from getting under the floor.

Pergo flooring is intended only for indoor use. Be sure the surface of the sub-floor is flat, clean, dry and sound before starting. It is also important to consult your building contractor for the consideration of the ventilation of your home.
